MyPLT Review: This is just the best book! This series is designed for immigrants to the United States, and has great graphics of US situations. For example, pictures of the kitchen with everything labeled in both languages. We use this as a background to our conversation classes. The Spanish version is illustrated but this book is also published in German, French, Russian and lots of other languages. Fun just to browse through - a truly excellent book. |

501 English Verbs with CD-ROMAuthor: T.R. Beyer Jr.
Published by: Barron's Educational Series
Price:
$12.91
ISBN: 978-0764179853
Edition: Second edition - January 1, 2007
Format: Paperback - 672 Pages
MyPLT Review: As you move past the Beginner level, this becomes an essential reference. It will be the most thumbed-through book you own. Not needed when you start, but as you progress in English you will need this book. It is a "reference" book, and not a textbook, so it is not a substitute for the Practice Makes Perfect Verb Book, which explains verb usage. There is good solid knowledge in this book. |

McGraw-Hill's Essential Phrasal Verbs DictionaryAuthor: Richard A. Spears
Published by: McGraw-Hill
Price:
$11.01
ISBN: 978-0071497831
Edition: Second edition - January 7, 2008
Format: Paperback - 288 Pages
MyPLT Review: English has these hugely popular and inexplicable Phrasal Verbs. We have "look up", "look out", "look into", etc. which all mean totally different things. ESL Students often say Phrasal Verbs are the most difficult part of English. This is a reference book for the Intermediate and Advanced Student. This edition is recommended. It is more up-to-date and a little shorter than the larger version in this series. |
